Abstract
With some noteworthy exceptions, Islam in English is neither beautiful nor eloquent. In light of the centrality of beauty and eloquence in Islam, this situation is, to put it mildly, ironic. This research note reflects on that gap — taking as its starting point the ḥadīth "God is beautiful and he loves beauty", and the long-standing understanding that the beauty and eloquence of the Qurʾān are two essential aspects of its miraculous nature — and offers a new translation of Munājāt Shaʿbāniyya as a demonstration of what is possible.
