About this stream
Faith and Community is a new stream, concerned with how faith bears on the life of a community and what the tradition offers the questions communities actually bring to it. Its work so far is on mental health and wellbeing.
The stream’s first project, run with the Risalah Training Institute, is on faith-informed mental health and crisis response. It brought research and practical training together in the workshop From Stigma to Support, which set out how stigma around mental illness is shaped less by Islamic teaching — which emphasises compassion and care — than by cultural attitudes, social expectations and misapplied religious concepts.
More of the stream’s work will be described here as it takes shape.
