About this stream
Muslims navigating modern financial systems encounter instruments and obligations that had no counterpart when the classical juristic literature was compiled. This stream works on how the principles worked out in that literature bear on contemporary finance, and on the practical questions communities bring to scholars.
The stream brings scholars together with practitioners: lawyers, financial professionals and community institutions, on questions that cannot be settled from either side alone. Recent work has included seminars on cryptocurrency and digital assets, and on the drafting of Islamic wills within secular legal systems.
Its purpose is to produce guidance that is defensible as scholarship and usable in practice.
